Sunderland v Arsenal: Gunners to blow the Black Cats away
Two points from nine games. That’s the start Sunderland have made to the Premier League and to be honest, it’s somewhat surprising that they’ve even got two draws on the board.
Having netted just six times thus far, David Moyes’ side have issues going forward but their main problem seems to be stopping the opposition at the other end of the pitch and it doesn’t get any easier for the former Manchester United manager as Arsenal come to town.
Sunderland have been in and around the relegation zone for several seasons now and despite a couple of remarkable recoveries, most recently under Sam Allardyce, this could be one year too far. Having lost their manager to the England job just before the start of the campaign, the move to appoint David Moyes now looked hasty and potentially disastrous for their top flight credentials.
Coral are 2/5 (1.40) on Arsene Wenger’s men picking up three points, usually that would be ludicrously short price for an away team in the Premier League but it looks justified here. The draw is 15/4 (3.80) while the home side are 13/2 (7.50) to pick up maximum points for the first time this campaign.
Having lost four league matches without finding the net, the 29/20 (2.45) from Coral about Arsenal emerging victorious while keeping a clean sheet looks a solid option for those who believe Moyes’ men are set for another long afternoon.
The best bet though, could come in the form of Arsenal’s total goals. Coral are 27/20 (2.35) that Wenger’s men are able to hit at least three goals for the third time in five away games this league season.
The Gunners have won their last three top flight games away from the Emirates, netting eight times in that run. They put three past Watford and notched four times at Hull so a trip to the Stadium of Light is hardly likely to daunt the visitors.
Having also landed this bet in home games against Chelsea, Swansea and Ludogorets this term, the attacking options at Wengers’ disposal could have a field day against the Black Cats. The hosts will certainly need a good amount of good luck to avoid a heavy defeat.
Theo Walcott appears to have made the transition to central striker for the London club and the England international is a 4/1 (5.0) shot to open the scoring while Coral are an industry best 13/10 (2.30) on the 27-year-old finds the net at anytime. Given he’s hit five goals already, that could be an interesting wager.
The best strategy for this game looks to be splitting stakes across Arsenal’s total goals and the Gunners to win to nil (29/20) with Coral. Both of which could prove nicely priced winners if Wenger’s men are able to demonstrate their attacking credentials once more against a defence that has leaked three times against both Everton and Crystal Palace already this season.
